We'll Never Pass the way Again

     slow - old country

Yesterday, I passed from mid-life to whatever comes after that...
     late-life, senior-status, old-timer, whatever its called. I know
that it happened, because I suddenly realized that my perspective
of life had changed. I don't think it has that much to do with my
age, because I'm not that old...yet. Its just my thinking that has
aged. It was a rainy day, and I was on the 3rd week of a "vacation"
in between jobs. Being idle like that causes me to get depressed.
I had spent 2 days sifting through boxes of soot covered pictures,
newspaPER clippings, and assorted memoriabilia that a pack-rat like
myself collects. These things had been in the fire, 4 years ago, at
our house down on the CalfKiller River. I had to throw a lot of it
away. There were papers, and pictures, and flyers from my entire
life...but they were of no value to anyone but the pack-rat that
collected them. My good wife recognized that I was depressed, and
asked what I had been doing. She lifted my spirit back up, like she
has done so many times. The next morning, I awoke before daylight
with 2 songs in my head...this one, and the Cardboard Coffin song.

[ the world moves on, while only ghosts remain ]
     [ F G Am ]

It makes me sad to see the changes that have happened round' this place
                                    F G
we have much more, but its not better than the past
             C F G Am
And the pace of life has quickened, but for what, nobody knows
                    F G C
Friend, take a good look, you'll never pass this way again

     [ CHORUS ]

             C F G C
Well, I guess I've just grown tired of this rat race
                             F G
But, I know my Lord has made for me a place
                   C F G Am
We'll hold to God's unchanging hand In that fair and happy land
                 F G C
Not knowing sadness, We'll never pass this way again

     [ CHORUS ]

               F G C
Deep down inside, I know, we'll never pass this way again
