How Will I Know

My friend, Andrew Dunn, of McMinnville Tennessee is a farmer, a
soldier, a decent Christian, and an old fashioned Southern Gentleman.
Andrew has suffered tremendously in the past few years...he lost his
father, then his son, then his wife, all within a two year span. He
has been a hard working farmer all of his life, yet at his father's
funeral, he said to me, "How will I know when to plant?" and "How will
I know when to put out fertilize?" Of course Andrew instinctively knows
these "farmer" things, but his Dad was always there to "say when" It was
Andrew's way of expressing his loss. After working on the farm one Spring
afternoon with my own aging Father, it occured to me that my hours to
spend with "Pap" doing the kind of work that he so loved, were also
limited. It was then that I remembered Andrew's words, and I came
inside and started to write these words. RAJ
